Advocacy

Overview

As the Climate Justice Working Group, we combine initiatives for political education - in the form of panel discussions, teach-ins, institutional knowledge sharing, and blog posts - with broad-based mobilisation efforts to build an active climate justice coalition amongst University of Oxford alumni. We also use targeted advocacy to achieve concrete policy and structural change towards climate justice.

We are creating a hub for critical, liberatory climate justice discourse within the Oxford community. Through such a supportive infrastructure, we facilitate continued conversations relating to social justice-related institutional change. Our goal is to translate these learnings into practical, action-oriented initiatives.

Within the Oxford community, we have perceived a desire for critical, intersectional approaches and praxis to climate justice, as well as a gap in institutional memory for social justice-related institutional change between generations of alumni and students. This is where we, as an alumni-led Working Group, perceive our role to effect change.

The strength of our Working Group lies in the network of the University of Oxford community (alumni/faculty/staff/students): we want to connect with Oxford alumni who already act as agents of change, whether globally or locally. An incredible resource we can tap into is the rich and varied knowledge base within the Oxford community. We are both amplifying existing knowledge through our initiatives as well as creating new knowledge on climate justice, among our members and beyond.
