Foster Research on Climate Adaptation

Proposed Scope

The Working Group's scope and activities are in planning. Ideas for the Working Group include fostering collaborative and interdisciplinary discussions and presentations among OxCAN members on climate adaptation themes such as:
• Nature-based solutions and ecosystem-based adaptation
• Climate-resilient infrastructure and urban planning
• Locally-led adaptation and community-based resilience
• Hazard-specific data and adaptation challenges
• Adaptation across scales

Outputs of this work could contribute to OxCAN’s blogs, publicly-available reports, and short thought pieces. This Working Group may also become a convenor for building research teams to respond to Requests for Proposals (RfPs) related to climate adaptation. This would allow the Working Group to play a role in supporting peer-reviewed research based at researchers’ home institutions to inform broader calls for evidence and multilateral climate processes.

To support this work, the Working Group would explore strategic partnerships across the University of Oxford.

Furthermore, the Working Group would establish itself as a convenor within the broader climate adaptation space, including connecting OxCAN’s membership with opportunities for practice-based engagement, education opportunities, speaker opportunities, community-oriented adaptation initiatives, speaking events, and practical knowledge exchange. These activities could extend to collaborating with other OxCAN Working Groups and the University of Oxford’s Development and Alumni Engagement (DAE) Office to explore ways that alumni can support or participate in adaptation-related initiatives globally.

Working Group Membership

The Working Group's membership is below. It is chaired by the Manager, Lena Easton-Calabria, who convenes the Working Group and reports to OxCAN's Executive Committee and CEO. For any queries, please get in touch with the Working Group at climateadaptation@oxfordclimatealumni.org.
